Sophie Bates BA(Hons) Architecture, Dip(ARCH)

Sophie Bates is a RIBA registered architect with 20 years of experience across a range of sectors. Since Sophie Bates Architects was formed in  2010, we have focused on private, residential contemporary homes.  Projects range from new-build homes to large scale refurbishments and extensions.  Attention to detail and designing with natural light and materials are central to all our work.

Prior to setting up practice, Sophie has worked for award winning, highly regarded architectural practices.  Sophie was an associate at Alison Brooks Architects where she worked from 2006-2010, during which time they were awarded the Stirling Prize, the Manser Medal and a number of RIBA awards for exceptional housing design. As well as running a number of private new-build houses and large-scale mixed use projects with a strong focus on the public realm, she worked on the RIBA award winning performing arts centre in Folkstone.

Prior experience of the arts sector was gained at Burrell Foley Fischer LLP through her work on The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Sophie graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture with commendation. Having run RIBA award winning education projects at Gollifer Langston Architects, she became a member of the Architect's Registration Board in 2003.

Sophie's background is in the arts - having studied sculpture in New Mexico prior to studying architecture.
