New build surrey, contemporary home on site in Tadworth, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council

The design of the timber frame building relates to the scale of the local vernacular, clusters of houses made of a range of local materials. The single storey building has a variety of materials to add contrast and interest. Knapped flint contrasts with smoother glass, slate and render. Internally there are two wings - a vaulted living space with glass gable end to let in afternoon sun and a bedroom wing set behind a glazed corridor which bring in light and also provides privacy to the bedrooms. The entrance is framed under a steel canopy, designed to allow plants to grow up and over.

The new home is set in the ground of a Grade II listed home, set in Tadworth, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.  We worked closely with the planning officer to ensure the design and materials were suitable for the setting while maximising the size of the home for Pat and Rose.
