Sophie Bates Architects is transforming a stunning, detached home in Petersham, Richmond into a beautiful family home. By adding an additional floor and 150sqm of floor area we are transforming the home into a warm, beautifully detailed home that respects the art deco feel.
Nestled at the end of a secluded road in Petersham, Richmond upon Thames, lies a 1930's detached home set back from the road behind a brick garden wall. The house is hidden amongst the surrounding green landscape with neighbouring listed lodge and gardens and golf course.
The whole house will be sensitively refurbished and extended, adding 150sqm. The main additions are two rear extensions with sweeping copper roofs, set each side of the stunning two storey curved bay. The design is subtle with curves to the interior and exterior roofs echoing the bay.
The ground floor will be opened up internally to create a generous kitchen and living areas under the new vaulted roof. To the upper floors there are new master bedrooms with setting areas and generous dressing rooms. A new staircase with art deco curved handrail rises to the new second floor where two guest suites sit under a new crown roof.
To the end of the garden is a new sanctuary. A place to relax and entertain in the generous greenhouse and oak framed canopy nestled next to the 3m high Grade II listed brick wall.
Sophie understood the brief from the start. She delivered beautiful design ideas and solutions to create a modern family home.
Working with Sophie was such a breeze, timescale was met and expectations were definitely achieved.
I would recommend Sophie without hesitation.
