Creating connections is key to a successful home. Allowing light in and views out to the garden and sky. Creating spaces to gather and be together as a family, along with calm spaces to relax.

The alterations to this Surbiton period semi-detached home open up a small, dark kitchen and put it into the heart of the home, connecting it to a generous garden and utilitise an old garage plot.   An overhanging zinc roof with timber exposed to the underside add protection from the sun and a sense of protection.

Spaces are connected to allow for family time, to entertain, to enjoy the garden.  Contrasting these there are  quieter spaces to have some calm, to work or study and to sleep.  The new living spaces wrap around the house, utilising a large south faciing side plot and tranforming this area of unused paving into essential living space for the family.  Ceiling levels are angled, to play with light and acoustics and define spaces within the open layout.

The site backs onto a number of garages with multiple owners needing careful planning to ensure party wall notices are in place.  Due to start on site in 2026.

Sophie went above and beyond for every step of our building works. A master of light. In the daytime our house is awash with daylight but in the evening we have all the little nuances to create a great atmosphere. Our house is absolutely perfect for us.
