Carefully detailed walnut veneer wine cellar to a London basement extension.

The design of the wine cellar joinery started by looking combining the function of storage with creating a bespoke, eye catching piece of joinery.  As you enter the basement extension, the wine cellar is in front of you.  With it's low ceiling in the original victorian arch, a creative design was needed to add to the feel of quality.

The undulating form of interlocking diagonals was designed to create rhythm and a sense of perspective within the existing basement vault. I tested the form with card models to test the form, starting with the cardboard infills you have with  wine delivery boxes.

Lighting is a combination backlit panels to silhouette the wine bottles and uplighting hidden to the top of the joinery allow light to flow up the vaulted ceiling to softly light the space. Walnut veneer was chosen for it's tactile and visual qualities.

Behind the joinery is a hidden air cooling unit to keep the cellar at the correct temperature.  Full height glass sliding doors to the space allow you to see into space while  maximising usable floor space in the cellar.
